I hope this kind of excellence can be brought back eventually. We've allowed everything to just get way too shitty over the past few decades!
They started losing popularity after WWII. WWII increased the amount of airstrips around the world. Prior to that flying boats were better because they could land more places. After the jet engine and more places to land, on land, the market for the flying boats started to disappear.
Yeah, well, those jets were still super nice, with comfortable seating and nice decor. And booze and smoking!
Now they're like flying school buses, to varying degrees. Usually WORSE, really, but spring for first class, and then it's like one of those sort of nicer buses...
Complete with cavity searches and long slow moving lines at the airports! FUN!
I have not flown since y2k, and do not plan to do so ever again aside from on private planes.
Yeah you're not missing anything. I hate flying. Well I love flying. I hate airports and other people on the plane.
