Just get a traditional doorbell and install a security camera with CCTV or network that you can control. DO NOT give someone else a window into your home, even if it is just the front door.

I'm short and wear glasses and can't freaking use the peephole on my door. I have a camera that is not connected to any outside service (I use Zoneminder to maintain it) that aims out my window at my door and a thingy that is just a video peephole - completely not connected to the internet or anything else.
