Call your friends and tell them you love them. Someday, out of the blue, you won’t be able to ever again.

Is it though?

Only if you're already teetering on alcoholism will you immediately think "I need a drink to help get me through this".

Also, I've never seen alcohol make a sad person happy. It turns them into hysterically crying babies in adult bodies. I'll never understand it- at least heroin genuinely makes you not give a shit about anything for a few hours. Booze doesn't do that, so I can't grasp why people "drown their sorrows", because "drowning their sorrows" involves sloppily crying about them while drunk. It'd be one thing if this helped them to heal and confront those sorrows, but it doesn't.

Alcohol doesn't relieve emotional suffering. It heightens it and makes you look like a disgusting fool.

Alcoholics aren't aiming to feel better or drown their sorrows, they want to continue to feel bad for themselves

Scathing... but it makes more sense than "I am drinking to feel better", because I have never, and you reading this right now have never seen someone "feel better" about the loss of a family member or a bad break-up after drinking. At best they'll drink themselves to sleep, at worst all of their insecurities and sadness comes to the surface and they become hysterical, blubbering messes which are embarrassing to everyone in the room.

Again, at least I can understand a smack-head for using heroin to cope with abuse or loss or something- that poison at least makes you emotionally numb for a brief period. Of course, eventually they will have to face all of that pain (amplified many times over, from burying it repeatedly with chemicals) in order to actually grow as a person and not be dependent on external chemicals to make themselves feel "okay".

PROHIBITION WAS RIGHT. Come at me, you drunken losers, if you're not too hungover to form an argument. I'd rather have cocaine be legal and have cocaine stores than alcohol. Drunks are the cause of like 1/2 of the problem that happen on a daily basis.

It's about removing the physical effects caused by emotional pain, not removing the emotional pain. This is what they mean by "numbing the pain". Eventually you destroy your body and you are just drinking to kill the physical pain of having fucked yourself up. Then you drink yourself to death.

To play devil’s advocate, in my youth, I’ve used alcohol to get through my issues. It gave me artificial strength and control of my thoughts. If I was angry or sad, I could drink and rationalize myself out of the emotion. This is a horrible coping mechanism and I will never return to it. Face you life, men. Hold strong to your values and morals. I like that Poal has such a strong sense of these things.

That wasn't really devil's advocate- you just backed me up. I'm sorry to hear that you spent your youth all fucked up.

If I was angry or sad, I could drink and rationalize myself out of the emotion.

I do not believe that. You may have convinced yourself of this, but I want you to really try and think- after a terrible event, let's just say you had a bad break-up with a woman you loved: did drinking actually make you less angry and sad? When you were drunk, were you all relaxed/calm/stoic and happy? Or were you just fucking stewing in your poisoned mind over the break-up?

Yes...even drunks KNOW that, but it also blurs their reality, and tomorrow they will have forgotten most or all of the embarrassing shit.

Alcohol is a sinister cancer which has been eating away at the soul of mankind for thousands of years. It turns great men into raging, pitiful creatures. It turns sensible people into animals who lack the ability to reason. It brings out the "id", the "Mr. Hyde" that lies within all men.

The story of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde could just be altered slightly- instead of a magic potion, Jekyll just ingests a bunch of alcohol. He would behave exactly like Mr. Hyde: impulsive, violent, rapacious, lacking any form of empathy, only acting on what feels good in the moment. But then, as the sun comes up and the potion (booze) wears off, Mr. Hyde is gone and Jekyll is left with a pounding headache, wondering why he's covered in blood because he has very little memory of hte previous evening.

Alcohol is one of the most destructive variables in the killing of the West. Children neglected because parents just need to go out and "drink socially". Parents beating the shit out of each other while drunk.

And drunk drivers- anyone who is caught driving with a BAC over .04 should be executed. I know a lot of people who read this will have DUIs on their record: kill yourself, you worthless hunk of shit. I wouldn't give a shit if it was just you endangering yourself, but when you're driving, you're endangering everyone. How many young lives snuffed out because of you motherfuckers getting wasted, and then you just have to be somewhere, so you stumble into your fucking car. You're a vessel of death, and in a horrifying twist, drunk drivers usually survive accidents that should be fatal, because when wasted your body is all loose and the impact doesn't affect you nearly as much.

TL;DR- Drinking is retarded. There is no logical argument for alcohol use. Drunk drivers should be executed, even if they didn't hurt anyone. Prohibition should be brought back (after we clean out the government, of course).
