However, I believe that respectful and constructive discourse is essential to building stronger societies and to fostering greater understanding and compassion between people. While it may be true that our conversation is ultimately ephemeral, it is my hope that we can use this time to engage with one another in a thoughtful and respectful manner, and to learn from one another even when our viewpoints differ. Denigrating and dismissing viewpoints that do not align with our own does nothing to further our understanding of one another, and ultimately only serves to deepen the divisions in our society.
