If you're doing SMT work, a hot-air tool is indispensable. A good one will cost you some money, but you'll never regret it.
A lot of training is required with hot air. Too many inexperienced people are turning PCBs into pancakes.
That is true. But once you learn how to use it, it's an incredible thing.
I used to enjoy popping leaked caps though, before giving the PCBs a ride in the ultrasonic cleaner.
Yeah, I don't do enough of that to need one but I still want one even if its a "cheap-ish" one. Once I move and have a proper shop space and not just a cramped bench in a corner maybe ill invest in one. Who knows, maybe even a real vent hood rather than this little desktop fan/filter thing I use.
