Is it that it just switches to the support material only on the layer that makes contact with the model? Then changes back?
so depending upon the settings. you can choose to use another filament for every bit of the suport (top option) or use a filament for the supports and then something else that might not stick as well, for the interface layer to make the supports pop off easier.
The interface layer, is specific spots in the support structure where it either meets the bed or support raft, or the support tree touches the print.
This (youtube.com) guy explains it with both great and gross visuals (I found it this morn, looking for this visual reference) in the first 2 mins. Ignore the bugger hanging form his nose... the words are good.
Tree supports are the shit BTW... so you;; end up with the support dogs on the pie sheet and the pla on the sheet, support dots will be for growing support trees. rest is normal.
It makes the print take way longer. and uses a bunch of extra material. There are settings to help tune out some of this like purge into infil, reducing the amount of purge in the purge block and others.
Again. I suggest you waste a few dollars in plastic, a few hours of slice and print time. Play with the tool. Act like a kid and click all the buttons, click them all at once even, whatever you can think to try with the thing.
Take some of all those great colors you just got, send them into a model putting obvious stuff in obvious places, like a white model, with dark interface or similar. You'll instantly get it.
right on, thank you.
