Some people buy buttons that dogs can click to communicate. Since they can learn the vocabulary of a toddler, they can hold mini conversations with humans.

Jack London covers this in White Fang. Domestication happened when men learned to control fire.

Basically, wolves became dogs when they smelled cooked meat and allowed themselves to be trained.

Awesome book btw. If you haven t read it, it's worth taking the time.
