I’ve seen this done by YouTube “designers”, to achieve a more cohesive look. It’s the stupidest thing I’ve seen lately. You’d have to go through every one to find the book you’re looking for. This is why the titles are printed on the spine, to make them easier to find.

He is controlling what appears in the frame when he is on camera. He likes the aesthetic of a book shelf—and may have no where else to setup his desk and camera—but he doesn’t want viewers to be distracted by the dozens of titles on his shelf. He wants anyone looking at his surroundings to notice the one book off to the right whose front cover is facing the camera.
