Right, as if having RAM cost a million fucking dollars is enough.. May as well make storage unaffordable too. Forget the claim that this is "AI" eating the world. Consumer protection is needed to make sure "personal computing" can't be killed... Even though that is exactly what they have been trying to do for decades.

Glad I stocked up on SATA SSDs a while back. Got some 2TB MLC ones (SM863) and smaller, with low write count. I just assumed SATA SSDs would be on the decline anyway since everything is switching to M.2 form-factor. They are just for older PCs. For external storage you probably want to use a hard drive anyway, cheaper and better data retention in the long-term.

Yep, per my post a few weeks ago about "bit-rot" on un-powered SSD's. If they are not powered, they are slowly losing data. Not quite the same as spinning rust.
