Sounds like they inject it into a wound tract and it probably soaks up fluids and swells, tamponading the wound. Problem is with penetrating head wounds the brain has to go somewhere because it instantly swells and attempts to seek normal pressures. That's why it runs out of orifices and herniates.

I'd like to see this stuff used real time

Ahh, they do talk about filling the wound cavity. So I guess that fits.
