I just bought some spare Li-ion batteries for a drill. Goddamn they are expensive now.

They mark the shit up because you're locked into their proprietary battery format. They've engineered a monopoly for themselves. Why do you think you don't see power tools that take standard lithium batteries?

You can buy a 40V 6AH (240Wh) Ryobi battery for $219 at Home Depot. You can buy 240Wh worth of Samsung 50E cells for $78.
