That is the reason for the software and computer engineer designations. There is plenty of software that can only cause inconvenience or lost data when it fails. Those projects don’t need certified engineers. There is plenty of software and computer hardware that runs in critical life and death situations. That’s where we need engineers to ensure incompetent, risk taking managers do not push things off the rails.
