Is a "sanitation engineer" an engineer? Come to think about it, is an engineer an engineer? The real engineer is the man who drives the big steam engine down the rails.

The standard locomotives that we all know are actually electric.

The wheels are turned by electric motors. There is no mechanical connection between the diesel generators and the wheels.

Also, batteries are a horrible way to store energy. Locomotives will be one of the last things to switch over to batteries.
