That is correct. Lithium makes batteries with incredible energy density. However, you need to get that energy from somewhere.

Lithium is most easily extracted from salts, so they use the same methods for getting table salt. Put it in a saturated solution and let the sun do the work of evaporating (and precipitating the various salts out of) the water.

Any type of resource extraction is harmful to the planet. This is because removing these raw materials can result in soil degradation, water shortages, biodiversity loss, damage to ecosystem functions and an increase in global warming.
