Is this shit done yet? I want graphics card prices to come back to Earth please! Maybe they lost enough money with the crypto crash to stop this shit...

GPU based AI machine learning is the next hot ticket item. Especially for iterative design such as FEA or aero optimization. Next generation graphics cards are going to be power hungry monsters because the owners of Nvidia and AMD(Vanguard and blackrock) see huge potential in the stock market HFTs.

But the demand for AI doesn't drive every get rich quick pyramid schemer to purchase GPUs.

No but it drives enough of the ones with liquid capital to pump and deplete supplies to affect the market. The supply disruption was nothing more than hoarding to drive get rich quick schemes, it sort of worked. It's having untold ripples that will eventually manifest, can't keep kicking the can down the road forever. It's going to affect sales of next gen cards for sure, they panicked and in order to entice people to consume product, they made them more powerful(and also more energy hungry). This is to entice them away from the cheap surplus that's about to flood the market, and into new product. After all the GPU manufacturers got their money well in advance.

They're back, only took 2 years, hopefully fuel costs don't take 2 years to return to normal.

It might take 2 years but I sure hope not.

presumably when ETH goes to proof of stake then they will all be selling off their GPU's? waiting for that event would seem like the best time to buy

I'm not in a rush, I want to see how hard this recession is first

They're apparently back to MSRP now, AMD ones even going below MSRP. When the used cards flood the market it's going to be interesting.

not to mention all the ESG shit being pushed on the world. apparently the millions of square feet in brick and mortar banks that used tons of fossil fuels to heat and cool with millions of employees over many decades is more environmentally friendly than some GPUs running for a few years.

i think proof of work, which may or may not be superior to proof of stake, is fighting the current with the ESG/Carbon credits bullshit coming from the head of Blackrock

Gold doesn't take any power to store value.

oh yeh...you just put it anywhere and it'll just stay there.

no just to transport or securely store or make divisible or to be useful in any meaningful way, then yes you're right.

Nor does Bitcoin. In both cases mining is expensive, energy intensive, and driven by self-interest.

I'm really confused at what this all means, especially with multiple versions of the same coin now
