In the same way, I’m sure they have some manual operation available to let you out

Well you gotta hand it to them on this one. The fear of driving in tight parking garage has pushed them to this solution. The Asian mall parking lot is an absolute laugh

The Japanese have been doing this for years but they usually have them set up under ground so your car pops out from a hidden chamber and you don't have some hideous structure taking up space.

It's in China....all their people are like 5'6 and they love those little go cart cars. This has more to do with space as they build UP to address overpopulated areas.

If it were tried in the U.S. (and I know hydraulic lifts in garages exist for personal properties that will put a vehicle "on top" of another vehicle) it'd be for security ....which is another way to say "protection from shit-skins".
