I have a 2018 Lenovo ideapad. It was working fine up until a few weeks ago when I downloaded the FXSound EQ and Sound Enhancer. Ever since then my laptop has been acting fucked up. The OS is lagging - It takes 30-60sec to open a file, it's slow to connect to wifi (takes around 10mins) and now today it won't boot at all. I started it up and it was saying "Preparing Automatic Repair" - I looked up troubleshooting instructions online and followed them, but my laptop kept going in a loop - same thing kept happening 3 times. NOW my laptop screen is black and it's loud - like it's trying to repair something. It's been like this for over 30mins and I'm getting really pissed off. WTF do I do? Do I let it keep trying to boot or should I shut it off and restart it? I don't have a boot CD (or even a CD/DVD drive on the computer) and I'm out of options.

Edit: After over an hour it finally told me what's wrong, it's either missing

EDIT 2: It's the next day and I don't even want to touch my laptop because it's gonna make me really angry My patience for technical problems declines every year.

I would boot Linux live, copy everything off to a backup HD.

Then look up how to make a Windows USB installer. Reinstall and trash everything on the current HD.

Keep in mind the HD could be your problem.

Of course this requires 2 USB thumb drives and a backup USB hard drive. I realize not everyone has that. I have that stuff laying around.

Probably easier to just pull the drive out, install a new one, install Windows and connect the old one with an adapter and pull the data. As long as the file permissions don't get fucked up should work.

But yeah like you said you have to have all this stuff lying around.

Not on newer laptops typically, but I haven't looked at Lenovos recently. If it was an HP, no way you're opening the thing up without breaking it.

Have you tried bending the prongs on the plug so you can plug it into a 220 outlet? The enhanced electron flow usually speeds up most processes.

I also deleted the FX sound enhancer from my computer a few days ago. Don't know if it's the sound drivers that are messed up or what, but now my laptop is almost unusable.

If you dont have anything on the laptop that you care to save. i would just reload the OS with a usb stick that has windows setup files.

I produce music and just can't wipe everything clean. I have thousands of dollars worth of DAWs, plug-ins and samples - Native Instruments, Ableton, FL Studio, Reaper, Acid, about 80gb of samples and over 100 unfinished demos. I only use it for music production, DJing, photoshop and the internet.

Can I be rude and ask why you would have all that on a piece of shit lenovo?

TBH I haven't had any serious problems with it for almost 4 years - I've owned Toshibas, HP & an Asus in the past and always had issues with them (Toshibas are the worst) and Lenovo was the best performing mid-priced laptop I could afford at the time.

And you...didn't back these files up?

You can likely repair the operating system via a USB stick containing the Windows installation media since rhe error is explicitly regarding the operating system (kernel) being corrupt. Either bribe your nearest IT friend with a bottle of scotch or hit up the nearest PC repair shop.

I have an external 1TB hard drive with backups of all my important DAWs and programs. Half of my samples are on 2 thumb drives. I haven't backed up anything within the past few months though.

This is the source of your frustration.

You don't just have a PC problem, you have a bad business, financial decision problem too. Separate the two issues, prioritize accordingly, and compartmentalize.

i.e. If your existing data / investment is the greater priority, then time and the PC are secondary. Stop fucking with the machine because you risk loosing data. Obtain a backup / get a new SDD even if you have to pay someone and then attempt to repair the machine so you don't risk loosing data.

ntoskrnl.exe is related to high memory usage. Your RAM might need to be updated. That is the most probable solution. Anyway.

I'm assuming you're on a different PC at the moment?

Best thing to do for now is download windows on a usb (buy usb at walmart or something. They're cheap.). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After you're done installing that on usb, do this:

1) Plug usb in laptop 2) Boot into bios (usually keep pressing f8 or f12 or esc while the computer is starting up and bios will load) 3) Once in bios, find the section that allows you to select your usb port as the default startup option 4) save, exit and restart 5) Your windows repair shit will begin and fix the kernal issue. Just make sure you don't select "install windows" or anything. Just do repair.

Option 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aeq98yemV1s

Option 3: Only do this if you happen to log in to windows without a recovery disc:

This almost sounds like you got yourself a virus, if it came from a website that was not the manufacturer of the hardware then likely it's loaded to kill systems. It may look like the hardware website but the extension of the url is off or misspelled. I'd reload the OS, if it came with the OS you can hit a button at start like F11 or something and then wait for about 6 hrs for a hard drive likely far less for a solid state drive since the OS is on the drive itself so the solid state drive doesn't have a arm swinging madly for hours where solid state just transfers at high speed all the files needed extremely fast.

If you have windows 12 you broke your computer. I still use windows 8.

What kind of hard drive does it have?

You need to find an IT guy you trust and see if he's got a Win7 or Win10 (or Linux, doesn't matter) boot USB you can borrow. Linux will be better as you'll get better, this is my opinion, tools to get an idea of what is going on with less effort.

500gb hard drive. Intel core i5 I found the error code 0xc0000185

[–] 1 pt

That error code generally indicates that some sort of config data has become corrupted or deleted, and is generally caused by hardware failure or new software.

First thing to do is try to uninstall the new software. Since you probably can't boot normally, try to boot into safe mode and uninstall it that way. If you can't do this, here's an article about the particular error:

https://ugetfix.com/ask/how-to-fix-boot-configuration-data-error-code-0xc0000185-on-windows-10/

The big thing to remember here is you're working with what's essentially a destroyed drive, so there's a chance it won't come back or you may damage other things. If you have the capability, make a dupe of the hard drive and work from it. If not, then YMMV and you run the risk of damaging things beyond repair.

Sounds like you need a Win10 USB to try a repair/reinstall with that.

Hurl dat nigga out de window like a frisbee

Sounds like a defective hard drive. Do you have a regular spinner drive or SSD?
