I feel like Windows98SE was the sweet spot. It ran everything all the way back to the original IBM PC software, and everything written up to about 2002. It didn't require a bunch of editing of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, but it ran multimedia and OpenGL games just fine. That was the moment when all the pieces we love today were there in one package finally.

I know several win 98 true believers, it had something for some people for certain. It irritated me because it did not cache disk reads at all. I was a gearhead back then.
