Give it a couple of years, we'll all get the keys to that tech sooner or later. Best Intel can hope for is maybe a couple of years cashing in on this bullshit.

When you start selling product with fully functional but disabled features built in, I stop buying it. (Or don't start buying at all, like Tesla) Something feels "broken" at that point. I have in my possession this thing that can do this thing, but will only do that thing if I give the company that made the thing more money. Kiss my ass. Waste of materials and resources including these disabled features in each product. Each little piece of unused silicon runs up the total waste. It costs more to build in these unused features, which they pass on to you. Either way, you'll somehow pay for this shit you're not allowed to use.

It can cost more to make several different designs of chip rather than a single type.

Good point, the ‘waste of resources’ argument could stop this nonsense.
