Go get a used one from goodwill and never let it touch a computer that's ever seen the internet. Isolate it and you're fine
Great comment!
printer cartridges could also have a GUID number laid into forensics.
I EXPOSED THIS TOPIC 4 YEARS BEFORE EFF EVER KNEW, on slashdot in the 1990s.
I heard about the canadian debate on color copies in the mid 1980s, and then listened to the US gov floor debates on CSPAN radio retransmission. It was not currency that bugged the government in debates, it was bearer bonds and stock instruments.
Later I exposed it on slashdot. Then years later, at lest 4 or more, EFF "discovered" it.
I leaked bigger secrets on slashdot as anon than that. Far far bigger secrets.
As well as other forensics : the T.R.E.A.D. act to hide a RFID passive tracking chip in tread of all cars right after 9/11 (they allow gov to forensically record all cars on all major highways over time, they also are scanned at ALL military base entrances for over a decade).
Other forensics with links I posted : BATF gasoline taggants to catch any normal arsonist
Other forensics with links I posted : gunpowder taggants used for decades to also catch anyone using some BULLET brands not just black powder.
I used to post many +5 anon exposes to slashdot.
Often.
But I divulged printer stuff in the 1990s.
How would you track gunpowder?
explosives have chemical tracers too
kinda irrelevant for anyone here, but just mentioning it
