Oh noes, it'll take some hacker 20 minutes to write a software version that circumvents this

So does an external drive mitigate this issue, or does one simply avoid Intel and use AMD?

No this is the removal of CPU features that are required to decode the disc. Use AMD and older operating systems (or Linux) to ensure the drivers don't get uninstalled.

That's what I get for trying to go legit and buy movies. On the other hand, I haven't used an Intel chipset in about 20 years.

Off to the Pawn Shop/Goodwill to shop for more perfectly good computers, then download some more linux .iso images to put on them.

All the more room in line at Best Buy for you Bling-Chasers. Enjoy renting DRM until your social-credit-score falls too low.

In my basement I’ve got ancient laser discs, beta, vhs, dvd, and now they’re after the blu-ray. They want you to repurchase the movies you like, that will not sit out on their cloud so they can yank your library away for some obscure violation of their TOS that extends to activities you may do that’s off their platform. When you fire up that cloud based copy of Ghostbusters, they know exactly where you are. You will own nothing, and be ‘happy’.

Other than gaming BS I see zero need for 12th Generation Intel Core 11000, so what is the big draw? While I'm on the subject, is anyone ready to admit that embracing the DRM, HDCP, etc., was not the wise choice?
