I'm looking to get a home NAS in replacement to an old prebuilt server. I want to be on all the time and quiet.

I'm looking at either getting a 4 bay synology or 4 bay Asustor locker.

I don't want to build my own right now. I want this to sit quietly in the living room not suck up a lot of power.

Open-source! FreeNAS used to be decent I think. I haven't looked at it in a long time.

edit: Sorry I didn't read that you don't want to make your own Open Source would not be the way.

I did that awhile back with an old desktop. Those things are on all the time. I even thought of getting the official truenas but it is power hungry.

I want plex, nas, quiet, and low power. The adjustors as6604t and the synology ds930+ are about the same cost and do what I want.

The hardware consumes power, not the OS. My FreeNAS machine is silent and idles at less than 20W.

The os doesn't use power? Wow. Lol

I'm not really looking for a major project of specing everything out then building. I also don't want a raspberry pi nas or having to look up every compatibility sheet.
