We're right back again to the hi fi wars in the 70s and 80s. Sure, you can tell the difference between a lossy 128kbps compressed mp3 and a lossless Flac at 1mbps but come on. Is it really worth it? Seriously, the DACS, amplification and drivers in the audio chain aren't going to allow you to hear so much difference.

Some home audio (AVRs in particular) need improvement, but DACs in particular are crossing the threshold of inaudibility. Even some USB dongles have such low IMD and jitter that they outperform much more expensive interfaces. ICEpower, Purifi and THX (and a handful of Chink audio brands) have raised the standard in the past couple of years.
