No wonder used car prices are going up, it’s beyond just the squeeze on new car supply, buy up high quality reliable off-grid and single owner cars not from the salt belt with decent gas mileage while you can.
So you believe this fake news too? Toyota is a based company and the MSM will find any reason to slam them.
Toyota used to list remote engine starter as a $600 option on the window sticker. That is no longer an option for years.
Now they list "connected services" with a free trial period. The connected services allows location, windows up/down, climate control, engine start/stop, all from your phone. As well as tire pressure, fuel level, and other vehicle data to your phone. For $8 per month.
They give it to you free for 1 year. Then after that, $600/8=75 months of connected services.
Not a bad deal. Or you can believe the MSM.
It's not fake news if Toyota is selling it. I'd rather just pay for the $600 upfront. The app just makes it worse. I have been in cybersecurity for too long to trust shit like this.
I won't trust it either. I don't want a new Toyota until my current truck dies, which should be about 15-20 years.
Just saying, it's a business decision and the media is not telling the whole story, regardless of what you'd rather do.
Yeah I agree with you this looks like people are complaining about having to pay for a service that didn’t even exist before, it’s not like you can’t get standard local remote starters.
Lol Toyota fan boy. News flash pal! Remote start comes on everything now, even Hyundais have it standard. Enjoy having a monthly bill for something an Elantra driver gets for free.
Hyundai doesn't have trucks. Not sure what faggot car you drive.
No your not. I just picked the lowest shitbox but still it has remote start.
You're so triggered you downvoted the post, cause you know your Tacoma is dogshit slow and might have a frame recall any moment. There is a reason in rural areas where everyone owns a truck you never see a Tacoma. Because it is a Camry with a bed.
What Dealership do you work at?

Which includes remote start which I have on my car for free.
You can still get a remote starter without having to pay for a subscription service, this is just referencing an optional service that happens to also have remote starter features bundled in with a bunch of other unnecessary convenience features.
What do you mean "free?" Nothing is free.
You paid for it somewhere. I guarantee that.
The connected services allows location, windows up/down, climate control, engine start/stop, all from your phone.
That's fine. But how does it allow said control? If it's always-on IoT stuff, which requires servers and bandwidth, sure. If it's BT-connectivity or something like that, then that's literally what's called an "anti-feature" and you're being charged for things that your car can do, regardless. That's some ol' bullshit.
As well as tire pressure, fuel level, and other vehicle data to your phone
If the sensors are installed on my car, and I'm locked-out of using them unless I pay you a monthly subscription fee: you can go fuck yourself.
However, I don't care enough to look in to this. I'll re-evaluate my stance if I'm ever in the market for a new Toyota.
It is connectivity from anywhere you can access the internet. It is not bluetooth.
As long as I have full-access to everything they put on the car, without having to pay for said service, then whatever. But that means there'd better be a screen on the dashboard-tablet to access every single sensor/control that they install, on said car, that they charge a premium to access otherwise. Like, I'd better have admin or API access to the port which accepts remote commands.
I never use even 20% of the "extra" features on cars.
I am not connecting my phone to the "entertainment system" for them to track. I am not loading up the "app" for them to track.
The only new feature that I like is the radar for the cruise control that senses cars in front of you and slows you down automatically. doesn't work perfect, but still nice.
Remote start could be a nice feature, except for the waste of gas. Letting your car warm up is generally useless for modern vehicles. Just drive in a way that doesn't put stress on the engine for a minute or two and you will be fine.
had my 2018 tacoma 20 days before i gave up on the 1980's tech head unit that couldnt see folders on the usb stick for my music
I wonder how easy it would be to just compile your own small linux distro for those on-board units, slap Kodi on there, and away you go.
