They said they are going to mandate a connector. Picking winners.
You might have a point if it was something besides the charging port. It's for the same reason you can only buy one shape of plug to fit the outlets in your house. Imagine if every appliance in your house had a different plug. It might surprise you to learn that most of the things you use daily have some sort of mandate that controls several aspects of them.
Also, there is no winner and loser. The only difference in the two cords is the shape of the end piece. This is not a competition between technologies.
It's also the data port. I mean the literal port is when most phones only have one.
The equivalent to home would be if some company came up with a barrel connector or something for the house, manufacturers wanted to make appliances that support it, and the government said "no, all appliances must have prong connectors." I don't know if they do that. I wouldn't put it past government. I disagree that that is the right thing to do.
It's also the data port
My previous statement still applies. You don't seem to have a problem with the other end of the cord. The USB-A end that is a standard as a data port. Why aren't you arguing for each manufacturer to provide a different form factor for that?
I don't know if they do that.
They do that exactly. And for good reason. I'm a master electrician. I work with those rules.
