Will this cause a regress in progression or just a pause? Even if these chips were completely eliminated at this point, the furthest back it would put us in technology is around the 1990s.

The R&D portion of chip-making probably won't be affected, but I can see this making it harder to get new technology out into the wild.

I'm exaggerating of course, but I do think society needs to be less dependent on this shit. I'm old enough to remember Y2K and knew then that we were fucked if the system breaks. We have only become more dependent on machines since then.

While I find nothing wrong with technology, it has created a generation of idiots that don't understand the metal doohicky at the end of their keyfob will unlock the door when the battery in the fob is dead.
