Bitcoin millionaire Erik Finman answers critics from Left & Right calling Freedom Phone a "scam".

Since Freedom Phone’s announcement and launch last Wednesday, promising a product free of Big Tech censorship and surveillance, the company has garnered universal criticism from the left and some criticism from the right (notably Reason Magazine’s notoriously Pro-Big-Tech Robby Soave).

Freedom Phone’s Founder Erik Finman agreed to an extensive interview with National File to respond to those who call the venture a “grift” or “scam”.

He has no excuses. It's a rebranded chinese phone.

iPhones are made in mainland China.

Freedom Phones are made in Hong Kong, which is slightly better.

The way supply chains are currently setup, it's nearly impossible to make smartphones in the US. Motorola tried and failed. It'd be even harder for a startup.

I still believe the Librem5 is far better, while this guy is just starting, Purism and Librem have already been around for many years and they have working models with customers able to give you a real review.

It's easier for regular people to switch to DeGoogled Android phones, because they'll have access to all their favorite apps.

You don´t even an app for Gab, Parler, etc, you can access using an Internet browser. Most people what we care about is privacy and security, having your favourite apps hasn´t got too much use if it is not private and secure.

I really don't see that, especially considering the overwhelming popularity of blatant spyware like Facebook, Google, Android, Amazon Alexa, etc.

Most average non-techies seem to care about convenience over anything else. They want to press a button in the app store. And for many banking apps, if you want to scan & remote deposit a check, you have to use the smartphone app.

Except most of the backers from 2017 have still not recieved their phone. A lot of people have begun to lose faith in Purism.

At least they have a spec sheet, I find it ridiculous to buy a phone, the "Freedom Phone", that does not have a spec sheet. They could send you a brick phone and still be within advertised specs, because they don´t have ´advertised` specs.
