i can imagine trying to sell this shit to an investor during a joy flight...

'well what you got here is an aeroplane son.'

'no no see... its got four wheels and you can fit three in the back seat an... an...'

'thems there are wings see... thems ailerons.... thats what we call a 'propellor' in a 'pusher' configuration'

'its got android auto!' cessna 172 bug smasher roars past complete with student pilots hanging arses out of window

'how much is one of these going to cost again? cos i can get one of those for less than a second hand VW golf.'

you want an 'air car' it either needs to have retractable surfaces and power it with something big enough to get air moving over them that still needs to be small enough to be not stupid, or you need to have no wings at all and keep it up using energy directed down then be able to get it to somehow accelerate and slow down, more akin to a harrier jet than say an f35 and gotta be honest with you thats more where my imaginination goes on that one because im betting there is a way to not only do exactly that but convert existing cars into something that could actually fly... theres some pretty awesome stuff going on with hybrid electric turbofans.

The problem is, they are poor cars and planes. Insurance will be huge. A minor wreck means it goes to the A&P, not the local shop. It means both your plane a car are down. Will renter's insurance provide a rental aircraft? What about checkout for time in type?

And the last thing you want is every dumbass on the road flying over your house. They run out of fuel on the road!

You still require a pilot's license and an airport. Thankfully we don't have to worry about that.

It was a great concept when there were no rental car agencies at airports. Why would you drive a million dollar aircar on a public road with 85 year old drivers and kids who just got their license or immigrants who never drove and they're all driving 2" behind you to get a better look; and then pay for a yearly inspection at the local gas station. Would the engine even pass a California Emission Test? Does it have a catalytic converter? Is there an gas engine delete option so it can run on batteries? It's a totally idiotic idea.

First, be a pilot. Second, have a lot of money.
