Check the power settings. Something is configured oddly for screen-off/standby/hibernation.
In device manager, make sure the mouse and keyboard are set to be allowed to wake the computer. Under properties > power management.
install linux on your computer unless you have some specific need for windows. it's better for privacy and sanity. generally does everything you need and doesn't spy on you.
This is the correct answer.
Go to your start menu and in the search field type "power" or "sleep" - you should see power options listed as a search result.
Go there, look for a way to change your current power plan ("advanced power options")
When your computer is idle for X minutes, it shuts the monitor off
When your computer is idle for X minutes, it may stop power down the hard drives to save them from idle work.
When your computer is idle for X+X minutes, it goes to sleep
When your computer is idle for X+X+X minutes, it may go into hibernation
When the monitor is shut off, mouse movent or key press will bring it back
When computer is in sleep or hibernate, these states can be configured to allow wake by mouse/key or by power button.
Check these variables and change them INCLUDING the length of idle time before computer commits to one of these actions.
You can also tell it to NEVER sleep or hibernate, which may just solve your issue.
Illuminalto has definitely stated the correct answer.
at first, the computer just shuts off the monitor then it will go to sleep then it will hibernate.
just set the Power settings to never hibernate.
Great explanation, and I'd like to add my suggestion to it, which galabad71 mentioned.
If this is a custom-built desktop (as opposed to a pre-built), turn off any and all settings related to sleep and hibernate (and set counters to 0 which disables them). I've never had sleep or hibernate work well with custom PCs, there's always been some edge case which causes grief.
I had a keyboard where I needed to press Ctrl + any key to wake it up -- moving the mouse or pressing a key alone wouldn't do it. You should try different combinations of things, it may be just a quirk.
If you couldnt edit from settings, try this http://desmondbrand.com/caffeinated/
My fren recently wiped my laptop from the Win10 bullshit, and installed Linux Mint, which is the same as WinXP. I love it. No updates, no bullshit.
Display port monitors often refuse to wake up. Try removing the display port cable and reinserting it
Make sure you backup everything so you don't lose your files.
Some reason it sounds like it doesn't want to come out of standby.
Clicking the mouse or hitting keys on the keyboard doesn't work? The only way is the power button?
In such times, yes, only when the screen has blacked out for a short time does the keyboard or mouse work to activate it again.
Sounds like it may be going into hibernate mode when sleeping for longer periods. Check hibernate settings in Windows (just search for it).
Wtf OP this shit isn't new. Been this way since XP.
