Yea, even an older 1970s vehicle can be easily tracked.

The issue is... who gets the data. Tracking cars that don't have modern electronics requires a bit more infrastructure. Think surveillance cameras and tire rfid chip sensors. The data could be gathered by governmental agencies, but such agencies are geared to hide the fact that they have the data and will protect the data for fear of their capabilities being exposed.

Contrast this with corporate beasts that have only one motive.... money. These entities will sell your data to the highest bidder. And even if they don't sell the data, they're not going to be incentivized to protect the data from being hacked and exposed to the dark web.

So, it is not futile to complain or to limit the data that is gathered. Keeping corporations from getting the data is a first and very important step.

Consider also there is little to no distinction between corporations and government.

There are differences in purpose and function. Does a corporation care about security of their spy data, especially when it costs millions to protect? Probably not. Does the FBI, NSA, and CIA care about the security of their data gathered via spying? Very, even if it costs millions to protect. Why? Because a spy agency does not want its capabilities known.

I used to think the alphabet agencies were spying on other countries. I still think they do that, but their main purpose is to spy on us. They don't want us to know.
