I have a Lenovo T580. I have a dock and have two monitors. I want to add a 3rd and 4th monitor. How would I go about doing that?

The two monitors using displayport are already attached.

DisplayPort Hub If I bought a external GPU would that override the GPU on the laptop?

It shouldn't be a problem. Shouldn't. I'm running two video cards and the computer seems to do tolerate me fiddling with monitors all the time.

In all but the weirdest setups, yes.

Mind a few things...

  1. You will lose the dock due to the external GPU needing the thunderbolt port. I don't advise splitting the thunderbolt port, but if you only use the dock for network/USB and don't play graphically intense games you might be able to get away with it. No promises.

  2. If you don't have a dedicated graphics card already, it's pretty fucking hard to find a decent card these days for a decent price. Even used Pascal (gtx 10 series) cards are going for premium these days.

  3. Most GPUs have 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HMDI (or some variation). I've never seen a card with 4 DP.
