Search for DisplayPort Hub at your favorite electronics site (newegg, microcenter, etc.).
I thought you could daisy chain monitors with display port
's solution will work (albeit a bit clunky), but afaik thunderbolt-3 will only support 4 monitors if they are 1080p. Keep that in mind.
DisplayPort Hub If I bought a external GPU would that override the GPU on the laptop?
It shouldn't be a problem. Shouldn't. I'm running two video cards and the computer seems to do tolerate me fiddling with monitors all the time.
In all but the weirdest setups, yes.
Mind a few things...
You will lose the dock due to the external GPU needing the thunderbolt port. I don't advise splitting the thunderbolt port, but if you only use the dock for network/USB and don't play graphically intense games you might be able to get away with it. No promises.
If you don't have a dedicated graphics card already, it's pretty fucking hard to find a decent card these days for a decent price. Even used Pascal (gtx 10 series) cards are going for premium these days.
Most GPUs have 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HMDI (or some variation). I've never seen a card with 4 DP.
Get a desktop computer that you can expand to run FOUR monitors.
it depends on the programming. I would say 80% it should work
buy a properly sized monitor 3rd monitor and skip the 4th
edit: if you're on windows 10 USB-A to DP/HDMI adapters could also work if you insist on going full ghetto
Add another video card. Nvidas push two screens amd can push 3.
