The headline and main premise of this article is deeply flawed, to the point of being suspicious.

Signal’s encrypted messages can be intercepted from iPhone devices when those Apple devices are in a mode called “partial AFU,” which means “after first unlock.”

So what they are saying here is a direct contradiction to the assertions that Signal has either a design flaw or a back door... It is not Signal that is vulnerable but rather Apple iOS that is vulnerable. The app has to decrypt the messages in order to display them to the user and apparently the FBI can intercept the clear text at the OS level somewhere between the app and the display screen.
