The encryption-system behind signal was developed by Matthew Rosenfield, aka, Moxie Marlinspike. He founded "Whisper Systems", which was purchased by Twitter. After that, Rosenfield left and founded "Open Whisper Systems" - which later renamed itself "Signal".

Jack has been promoting Signal - indicating that Jack Dorsey and Matthew Rosenfield continue to be closely connected. To reiterate, Rosenfield founded Signal. He remains at Signal.

Telegram also asks for a phone number up front and it has lots of fashy groups there unlike riot/element which only asks for username/email.

Rosenfield. This is a very old German surname, indeed one of the very first on record. It is what is known as "ornamental" in that whilst it translates literally as one who resided by an area (feld) of roses (rose), this may not have been so in fact.

This is a record from a United States court of law which clearly states Mr. Marlinspike's name as "MOXIE MARLINSPIKE aka MATTHEW ROSENFELD and/or MIKE BENHAM".

So it seems that Moxie Marlinspike is his actual name. Which, he looks fucked up enough to be some weirdo's kid.

They need us to use signal to help obfuscate their comms, its a win-win for private comms, the only issue is potential backdoors...... but it's still better than regular sms, anyone can pick those up with basic antennae.
