Commenter OG Robber Baron had the best take. If lenders have your personal information they can target their offers better, and judge risk possibly better than you can. Media streaming gives a lot of personal information, and in some ways it's more accurate than social media. You might ironically shit post on Twitter, but you won't ironically listen to hours of shitty rap unless you actually like shitty rap. That can give lots of information, like the person that listens to Bach being more likely to pay back a loan.

I'm lucky enough to live in an area with a lot of terrestrial radio service, some of it public access (like the classical station) that is paid for by grants and has no commercials. That's usually what I have on.

there are tons of streaming radio stations with no ads

Yes, but someone is still seeing you stream them. If you're worried about someone knowing what you listen to in order to compile a profile, then you're going to want to avoid those as well.

I do listen to streaming sometimes, I have Radio Caroline on tonight. They have ads, but they aren't terribly intrusive like some terrestrial stations are. Some of the local radio stations have more ads than program now.
