lol

Gary already told you where he got it and what the guy looked like. That person is long gone.

Well that's a lead then... That's a start. You don't want any start. There's something and no matter how long it's going to take, no matter how much it will cost, within realistic boundaries of course... They aren't going to stop, ever, just like the fucken terminator. Especially for theft worth b/millions, even more so in critical sectors such as banking and defense industries

It's as much of a big deal as an amateur contract killer telling the cops about the weapon, the contract, and his 'employer'; "where he got it and what the guy looked like"

Shit isn't supposed to go anywhere near that point in the first place... How do you guarantee that? That's the trick.

...

There shouldn't be the start of an investigation for a crime to begin with, ideally. Or if there is one, then it has to take place so long after the fact and the crime scene and material elements got so trashed that you can't do shit with any of it

Ideally

I took the imaginary contract killer example because that's roughly the same type of end result, in terms of implications if it ever goes south

Quite a few people get caught in OPSEC stings. I'm always surprised at the number of mugshots on the wall.

It is a lot harder to get away with low-level stuff like this, cameras are so cheap they're literally everywhere.

There's always too much people involved

Not even one is the ideal number. That or "just about anybody on planet earth". Because what's the difference, in the end?

Every criminal investigation goes by determining a pool of potential suspects. If the main suspect is a black male in silicon valley, they you can already remove the rest of planet earth and the rest of the population, the chinks, the whites, the women, children, etc... And start there.
