In 2019, YouTube mutilated the publicly indicated channel subscriber count to three digits.

They claim it is to ensure consistent appearance across all devices. To me, this sounds like a childish excuse.

What do you think is the actual reason they did so?

I think it really is about looks. It streamlines the look of each video info so it doesn't matter if you have 354 subscribers or 35,427,298. Also if you go to the youtubers homepage you can still see the accurate count.

But if I own a 35.427.298 subscriber channel, I would prefer the majestic full number to appear. Same for views: 1B nearly looks like 18.

Also, no, the public subscriber count has been abbreviated entirely since late 2019.

Oh yup you are correct I was looking at views. Idk I still like the slimmed down look

Because 6,000,000 hurts their feefees and 666K makes them happy.

Poal has the same thing, but we haven't reached 4 digit upvotes yet lol

But YouTube also removed the full count from their API.

That's what you get when you hire shitholistani with H-1B visa to code and they can't read more than 3-digit values.
