I turn off as many permissions and background services as humanly possible on my 60$ phone. Smart devices are incredibly insidious and primarily tracking and data-collecting devices.
Whatever the lawsuit may eventually cost them will be a pittance, compared to the profit accrued from said data-mining. All such Big Business has cost-benefit analysis drones overseeing and projecting every decision. Take American Home Products Corporation for example. Do you really think they did not know in advance that Fen-phen was problematic? I'd bet they knew and released it anyway, because their number crunching drones forecasted the end profit would far exceed any cost of lawsuits. Looks to me like they were right:

All Big Business plays this game, especially Google. Just one of many reasons I laugh when gullible libertarians try to tell me that Big Business can be "trusted to do the right thing" and "put people before profits". Yeah, just like a fox can be trusted to guard-dog the chicken coop!
