The recently announced Snapdragon 865 is known as the first mobile phone chipset to support 2160p@120fps.

What I wonder about is that the pixel rates of mobile phone video cameras has not developed as much as in the earlier days.

  • 720p@30fps: 2009
  • 720p@60fps: 2012
  • 1080p@30fps: 2011
  • 1080p@60fps: 2013
  • 2160p@30fps: 2013
  • 1080p@120fps: 2015
  • 2160p@60fps: 2017
  • 2160p@120fps: 2020

The jump from 2160p@30fps to 60fps took four years. And we are still at 60fps in 2019.

2020 will finally bring 2160p@120fps after three more years.

I wonder why it took so long. Maybe a technical reason.

But the jump from 1080p@30fps to 60fps and 2160p 4K took only two years.

I've been noticing camera phones have been getting much better in recent years. Didn't realize they did 4k though. I'm really surprised by this.

I got my moto g4 a couple of years ago or so for roughly $110. It's one of the best phones I've ever used since they didn't seem to put an OS plus put anything that takes up to much resources on it. I had a $250 phone before my moto g4 and it didn't work that well due to the OS being too heavy on the resources or the OS plus other stuff being too heavy on the resources of the phone.

$110 is the best phone I've owned in my life for the $110 price tag to as well.

Indeed they have, especially thanks to improved hardware.

But I wonder how come the framerates have not improved quickly since 2013 despite the chipset performances skyrocketed.

The Note 3 of 2013 brought 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps, which was improved for the first time on the Galaxy S9 (2160p@60fps, 1080o@120fps). 4.5 years later!

I've seen over the years people making fun of those types that buy a new cell phone each time or asking what's even the reason to buy a new cell phone each time (get the new... "2" "3" "4" ----- "8" "9" "10"). I just want something that works to make calls and text for the most part and a cheap plan / cheaper plan. I kind of want to go down to a pay as you go plan that charges by the minute or text for the most part. Get down to $10 or $15 a month when it comes to a phone bill. I'm at $35 or so right now. I'm checked out on phones for the most part myself. I checked out on phones I want to say 5 years ago or so though.

2160p@60fps is excellent. Smooth and detailed combined.

But I wonder why it did not come in 2015 or 2016 already, but only late 2017.
