Gates came from a very well connected family, getting a chance to be the front of one of these money and state secret laundering companies. Similar to Zuck selling the DARPA Lifelog project, or Bezos getting access to a military logistics program or Google using the search algorithms of the Library of Congress, all propped up by In-Q-Tel money from the CIA drugs business. Bill sold software for small computers, developed for the military elsewhere. The legend is that he and Paul Allan developed their first BASIC compiler for a computer they hadn't access to by using an emulator, and when they got the first try on the real machine, it ran perfectly - everybody involved in programming knows that that is impossible. Gates is the front for Warren Buffet, and nobody knows whose front Buffet is (Buffet plays the role of a harmless old man better than Soros).
There is no reason for musk to work with bezos. Bezos is poison to engineering teams.
They are all poison. Microsoft programmers once claimed that Gates tried to write programs, and since then they had to encapsulate his work, manipulating parameters and adjusting results to fix the bugs without touching the work of the "master".
