If we could sustainably colonize unhabitable areas, why don't we have sustainable colonies in the depths of Antarctica? It's warmer than mars, has more water and a breathable atmosphere.
Outside of the earths magnetosphere you will get pelted by so much radiation you wouldn't make it very far.
We will probably have artificial intelligence in 50 years that's good enough that we won't need humans in space. Why bother launching smelly needy monkeys?
That's just three, can't give you five.
