Asteroid mining might be practical, actually; more practical than trying to colonize the moon or Mars IMO, since you don't have a gravity well to move things out of to bring here. There are more than a few technical hurdles to doing so though. Instead, we're talking about the moon and Mars, both of which would be money pits for much longer.
