Nice, assume you are a recovering windows user?

correct. i am currently debating where to invest my time. ubuntu, openSUSE, fedora, debian, or something else. Ubuntu is my first successful rebuild.

Cool. I switched for personal about 3 years ago and now rarely go over to my windows partition. I like Ubuntu and have never left.

do you use it for work? i am looking for something i can use to replace my work machine os.

Debian is the best, IMHO. If you want to a full time desktop I would suggest Mint and Debian for Servers.

I want to replace my need as much as possible on windows, yes. I have seen mint, but to my understanding is currently not backed by any big money -- fedora has IBM; ubuntu has Canonical; openSUSE has SUSE, etc. that seems dicey to rely on something that could disappear.
