Yeah, I wouldn't want to be reception staff anywhere, you get abused all the damn time by entitled fuckwits and you often get told "You have to tolerate the abuse or you get fired". Fuck that shit - if you're a fuckwit to me, I'm going to call you out on said fuckwittery.
On the other hand, the BEST experience anyone can have is actually a job like this, or telemarketing in a boiler room or door to door sales.
The human mind lives in a kind of psychological matrix. All human minds operate according to the invisible rules set by their in group. Breaking the bonds between the individual and the group is a very specific psychological procedure. It is painful and hurts as much as a physical beating can. But, once the bonds are broken, you are finally freed and you get a deeeeeeep insight into human psychology.
In 2019 when I made the decision to stop speaking to all non whites outside of business when it wasn't a financial transaction, it took some practice to make it a normal. Social constructs are incredibly powerful on the individual pshychology because of how much we depend on social alliances for survival.
This job is a good step for the kid. Way too late to be socialized into that at his age but better late than never.
