I read an article today about the top 5 punk rock albums of all time. Spoiler; the Ramones, greenday, rancid, the clash, and the sex pistols. I was quite displeased that the author did not acknowledge the irony of compiling such a list, but close enough.
My definition of punk is that it sounds bad, is loud and repetitive and contains some sort of rant. The Clash sounds good and copies Ska music most of the time. Green Day is teeny bopper alternative, sounds good most of the time. The Ramones suck and are repetitive = punk. The Sex Pistols - duh. Never heard of rancid.
Sometimes I just put shit in here because the sub is lonely. It’s the music sub for bad music that’s loud.
I grew up in the punk and ska. The difference is that punk is down strokes on the bottom three strings and ska is up strokes on the top three. Not really, but close enough... Voodoo glow skulls were nearly metal ska at some points. The author of the list should have called it the most commercially successful punk albums.
