I know a guy that had a kid with an abusive psycho. It took him ~3 years to finally get the court to give him primary custody after tens of thousands in lawyers fees, huge amounts of travel and time off work and documenting all of her crazy BS.
The US family court system is broken as hell. It almost ALWAYS takes the women's side even if can be very clearly proven that they are abusive or crazy.
I partially blame Hollywood for this bullshit. They make it seem like men cannot or wont take care of their kids and only a mother can. Yeah, it should be a Husband/Wife household but if that is not possible then kids should be with the "best" option.
