I usually do brown beans and ham over toasted homemade bread, been a while since I've done red beans and rice. I guess the brown beans are more of a WV thing, and that's where gramma was from.
Is that Pinto beans?
Yes, they are pinto beans. Get them dry, soak overnight, drain and rinse, then cook in a slow cooker all day with cubed ham, spices, a dash of bourbon, and enjoy.
I'm originally from CA and ate alot of pinto beans. My wife was born and raised in TX. She was raised on 'black-eyed-peas', which I don't like, so we comprise on red beans. Which we both like.
