Nothing you have is truly long term, hope you rotate. Canned food may still be edible but loses nutritional value. For the rice look to mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Your water filter isnt up to par for filtering bad water either. But hey your doing way better than most faggots.
What are your thoughts on the FoodSaver bags from Costco for vac bags? Not mylar, but they don't seem to leak o2, but I did notice flower only lasted a few years.
Food saver bags are thin plastic that can be easily punctured and the cheapo sealers only use a single weld to seal the bag. You really want bags that are rated for sous-vide and of course, a commercial grade machine to go with them.
Mine has dual pumps so it works very fast and uses a double weld to seal the bags. It also seals at a much higher temp so I cant even buy the cheaper bags, those just get burned right through.
mylar with o2 is the only way to store long term, vac bags do indeed leak. They are good for extending life of freezer meats and such though.
I mostly use them as freezer bags, definitely going to pick up some mylar and o2 packets for dry storage!
Water filter should be ok... am I missing something?
The specific problem is dirty water will clog the filter quickly. You'd want to pre filter the water, get a 5 gal bucket, put a hole the bottom and cover it with cloth, char coal, then sand. This can quickly filter water before your good filter, making the longevity of the filtration much better.
That's a damn good idea and if the water mains go out I will certainly do that!
Where do you plan on filtering from? Pitcher filters arent good unless the water is relatively safe to begin with. Sawyer filters are probably the best bang for the buck. I myself have several different ones, now lifestraws suck but the lifestraw family one isnt bad. Of course for taste you have to add a charcoal filter for it to run thru after filtering.
The filter is this one specifically and is rated for 99.999% filtration of all metals, bacteria and viruses. My source of water is the well in my backyard which is, tbqh, very high on heavy metal content.

That particular filter is slow as fuck btw, a single pitcher takes between 30 to 45 minutes. Tastes good though and is worth the wait.
