I have started saving my empty milk jugs and filling them with water. I use a funnel and collect the cold water from my showers as I wait for the water to heat up. I can usually fill one gallon by the time the water gets warm. This process is slow and requires work but it is saving water that is going down the drain. You can even use this water later for cleaning as not to waste it.

  1. Add a few drops of bleach or you'll get mold / bacteria growth. This goes for anything that stored something other than water.
  2. Don't keep them any more than a year. They're not designed to last long and will just start slowly leaking onto everything.

2 liter pop bottles are a better option, they're much tougher. If you get carbonated water instead of pop, then they've never had sugar in them and you can go right to storing potable water in them.

Rather than bleach, because it has shitty additives in it, 10-14% pool chlorine is better. Now,@ gallon of chlorine is only good for about 90 days. There are powdered forms of chlorine as well that will last years. Tri-chlorhex, Di-clor, etc.cheap and lasts forever.

Good points. I did get cracks in a few that buldged out when I cleaned them with boiling water. I drink milk so I got milk jugs. I gave up on diabeetus water many years ago. I hear carbonated water is good for when you are fasting to stave off the hunger pains.

Good idea to not touch pop. I drink carbonated water and mix it into a stevia version of French soda. Sugar, especially HFCS, turns directly into body fat that also starves the brain. It's almost as bad as chronic alcoholism.

Saw a tip for canners. Fill your empty jars with water. They take up the same amount of space and you never know.

I was told long ago not to reuse dairy containers for such purposes.

Those get stagnant pretty easily. Id rotate stock every month if possible. Better than nothing
