Here is a list I've been thinking lately

  • Tecsun multi-band radio, possibly with an extra long range antenna

  • Corebooted thinkpad

  • Alfa wifi adapter with extra long range antenna, possibly a panel or fishbone one

  • Powerbank that can charge through solar cells

  • Low weight solar energy cell powerful enough to power electronics or perhaps charge rechargable batteries

  • Rechargable batteries

For some of these items it may not be easy to source them.

What do you think of this list? Any ideas to improve it?

I was thinking about a small portable solution that wouldn't attract much attention and offer the advantage of mobility. Cost is also a factor, as a home solar system would cost far more.

So, you're looking to put together something that enables you to either shelter in place and be mobile if need be?

Something that can fit into a backpack

Then I can't really offer any critique or more useful feedback. You can get a thinkpad, chromebook, or whatever they call netbooks these days for under a hundred dollars or more refurbished, so there's lots of room depending on specs. The challenge for you will be getting batteries, regularly testing your gear, and packing it so the weight is well distributed on your body.
